Finding Some Hope

Or: a middle-aged woman and an 8yo girl make a fairy village

It’s rough out there. It’s rough in here too, finding the balance between fighting for what’s right and taking care of my own self (so I can keep fighting). And in that balance, sometimes one discovers the need to make a fairy village.

It all started with a video on Instagram, and a deep dive into this creator’s work. The blog is especially helpful for the best DIY supplies to use, and the youtube channel has some good inspo on it. We found a perfect patch of land behind our side yard, I took four children thrifting for supplies, then spent a week in Maine designing, building, and painting, and here we are in phase one of our village construction:

Luckily, there was plenty of moss to harvest in Maine.

We brought in a lot of dirt.

We tamped the dirt down!

Each house got a cardboard topper, dirt on top of that, and then some moss!

Ta-Da!
